A Guide to Ayurveda Body Types

Every one has unique Ayurveda body types, also called doshas, which is a natural disposition for how the body reacts to and synchronizes with behavioral and environmental conditions. For instance, some people may not gain weight after eating more than what is required, yet some people will gain or retain extra weight even when eating small quantities of food. With Ayurveda, we understand that each of us are unique and by being informed about our personal disposition, or Ayurvedic body type, we will be more likely to benefit from the practices and wellness choices we make. If you are wondering what your Ayurveda body type is, we have developed a dosha quiz that will introduce your to your dominant dosha and help you begin the path of understanding what foods and practices compliment your body.

Nariveda is determined to ensure that you are informed and equipped with the highest quality Ayurvedic wellness products, so if you haven't already, browse the shop. All of our liquid supplements are tri-dosha balancing, which means they will help your body find it's natural balance in hormones, immunity, energy levels and of course, doshas.

What are the three Ayurveda Body Types?

There are three body types in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. They represent key biological energies in the human body. Each body contains all three, but the triad is ever-shifting and fluctuating. These doshas should be balanced so that you can enjoy their benefits, which we'll talk more about in a moment.

Any imbalance can lead to a person becoming sick or unhealthy, mentally, emotionally or physically. More often, the proportion of the ayurvedic body types can by identified by a survey of the body's shape, energy levels, joints, digestion, muscle formation and more. An imbalance is called vikruti, and the balance is called prakuti. However, since we all are vulnerable to imbalances, because we live in a world that is not always in total balance with nature itself, then having a deeper understanding of your dosha will be an ally you'll want to have for the rest of your life. If you've taken the quiz and want to know more about how our products can help any imbalances or how it can amplify your state of wellness, feel free to contact us.

About the Three Dosha Types

The ayurvedic dosha Pitta represents the energy of metabolism in the body. All metabolic process including digestion, absorption, and nutrition among others are made possible by this Ayurveda body type. Pitta is associated with the small intestines, the liver, spleen, pancreas as well as the eyes. It leads to deep feelings of contentment and willpower when in balance. When out of balance it can cause ulcers, anger and jealousy.

It facilitates the energy of movement which is why it is associated with wind and air element. All motions in our bodies, for instance, blood circulation, heartbeat, breathing and blinking among others, are made possible by this body type. People born with Vata dosha are often active and can communicate and express themselves naturally. They are fast to learn and are lively. When in balance, people are creative and energetic. However, when it is not, it can produce fear and anxiety, moods swings and impulsion.

Kapha is associated with the earth and water elements. It controls growth and supplies water to all parts of the body. It is responsible for maintaining immune systems, hydration and skin hydration and protects the joints and tissues. When in balance, Kapha people express nurturing, forgiveness and compassion. But when out of balance, a Kapha dominant may feel insecure, envious or greedy.

It's important to remember that we each have all three ayurvedic body type (vata pitta and kapha) but usually one or sometimes two are more dominant. These doshas help to determine a person's personality and physiological traits in studied and predictable ways.
